Abstract
1312595 Sealing ring for drainage pouches A E MARSAN 4 Feb 1972 5375/72 Heading A5R A flatdisc-shaped sealing ring 11 for use between a drainage pouch and a patient's skin around a surgical opening is permanently shaped but flexible, being formed from a foam having a labyrinth of interconnecting open cells, of a material which is not watersoluble; the foam cells being filled with a gelatinous material which is physiologically acceptable. The foam material is preferably polyurethane, but may be a polyvinyl, polyethylene or other plastics material. The gelstinous material is preferably karaya powder mixed with glycerine or with a starch gel formed from a cereal. In use, the sealing ring 11 is glued or otherwise sealed to a beltconnecting strip (17), Fig. 4 (not shown) which is sealed to one wall (14) of a drainage bag (13). Several alternative methods of manufacture of the ring 11 are described.
