1312514 Percarbonates LAPORTE INDUSTRIES Ltd 30 June 1971 [6 July 1970] 32640/70 Heading C1A A percarbonate is prepared by contacting a fluidized bed of an anhydrous particulate carbonate (e.g. Na 2 CO 3 ) with hydrogen peroxide vapour or an aqueous solution of H 2 O 2 so that the water vapour and H 2 O 2 vapour within the bed is below the level that will cause the fluidization of the bed to cease. Preferably, the H 2 O 2 concentration in the solution is at least 60%, the bed has a height to diameter ratio of 1À5 to 4, the fluidizing gas is air and each 100 gin. of carbonate is contacted with 0À5 to 5 ml./min. of H 2 O 2 at 50‹ to 70‹ C. The fluidization of the bed may be continued, using heated gas, after contact to dry the carbonate. Stabilizers, e.g. MgSO 4 or sodium silicate may also be added to the fluidized bed.
