Abstract

Bleaching and washing liquids contain a peroxide cpd. e.g. 1-7% of 100% H2O2 or persalts e.g. perborate, percarbonate (5-30% sodium perborate of size 74 mu), and >=1 stabiliser at pH 8-10. Examples of stabiliser are 0.5-2% salicyclic acid, 0.2-1% soluble Mg salts, 5-15% borax, 0.2-2% colloidal magnesium silicate complex. Liquid sodium silicate is used with a small amt. of NaOH and 1-10% alkaline phosphate to adjust pH. Washing and bleaching are carried out at 50-95 degrees C for 30-60 mins. The stabiliser operates effectively in alkaline medium giving a product of reduced pollution.
