Abstract

1312078 Light-sensitive diazo-resin planographic printing plates OCE-VAN DER GRINTEN N V 16 June 1970 [23 June 1969] 29192/70 Heading G2C A light-sensitive, negative working planographic printing plate comprises a polyester support and, superimposed in order thereon, an adhesive layer and a planographic coating which is sensitized with a diazo-resin, the adhesive layer containing a polyvinyl butyral with 10-30 per cent by weight free vinyl alcohol units, and the planographic coating consisting of a hydrophilic water-insoluble crosslinked polyvinyl alcohol and one or more inorganic fillers. The polyvinyl alcohol may have a degree of hydrolysis greater than 98%. The filler may be titanium di-oxide, barium sulphate, antimony tri-oxide, calcium carbonate, lithopone, aluminium oxide, silica, kaolin, bentonite, aluminium silicate, diatomaceous earth or a clay. The planographic coating may contain water glass, colloidal silica, colloidal aluminium oxide or colloidal tin hydroxide in addition to titanium dioxide. The diazo-resin may be a polymeric diazonium compound containing p-diazo diphenylamine or a derivative thereof carrying one or more further substituents in the nucleus bearing the diazo group. The diazo-resin may be a condensation product of p-diazo diphenylamine and formaldehyde. The support may be polyethylene terephthalate pre-treated with trichloroacetic acid. These plates have good strength and the polyvinyl butyral layer effects good adherence without adversely affecting keeping quality, water retaining properties and non-scumming properties.
