Abstract

1311844 Variable speed conveyers DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 3 Feb 1970 [4 Feb 1969] 6030/69 Heading B7L A variable speed conveyer comprises a plurality of pairs of elongated elements 11, 12, forming a load-carrying surface and having two short sides 13, 14, one straight long side 15 and one curved long side, the curved sides of elements 11 and 12 being concave 16 and convex 17 respectively and being connected for lateral sliding, relative to the direction of travel of the conveyer; the adjacent straight sides 15 of adjacent pairs being connected by hinge means which also permits relative lateral sliding. The curved sides are connected by dovetail joints 27 while the hinge means comprises tubular members 24 and 25 through which a pivot pin 26 passes permitting relative movement of adjacent elements about a horizontal axis. Also the axial length of member 25 is less than the gap between the members 24 which permits the relative lateral sliding. The elements 11, 12 are provided with guide wheels 21, 20 respectively which run in associated guide rails 23, 22. Fig. 2 illustrates a conveyer moving from left to right, from a low to a high speed zone. Between these zones the distance between the guide rails is decreased from left to right, causing the elements to slide relative to each other such that the conveyer becomes narrower and travels faster. The conveyer may be used for transporting either goods or passengers, and may be incorporated into various systems acting as either a main or subsidiary conveyer. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,185,913.
