Abstract

1311736 Hardening gelatine CIBA-GEIGY Ltd 23 June 1971 [30 July 1970 1 Dec 1970] 36949/70 and 57080/70 Addition to 1269983 Heading G2C [Also in Division C3] Gelatine is hardened by the combined action of a chlorotriazine of formula wherein R and R<SP>1</SP> are methyl, ethyl, propyl or a group -(CH 2 ) n -O-R<SP>2</SP> wherein R<SP>2</SP> is methyl or ethyl and n is 1 or 2, and 1, 4-diaza-dicyclo (2, 2, 2)- octane (Dabco). 0.01 mol of chlorotriazine per 180 gm of gelatine and 0.05-2 mols of Dabco per mol of chlorotriazine may be employed. The gelatine may form a coating optionally containing silver halide. A single coating may be formed from an aqueous gelatine solution containing both agents. Alternatively, two successive coatings may be formed from respective aqueous gelatine solutions each containing one of the agents. The examples relate to coatings of gelatine on a subbed cellulose acetate support.
