Abstract
1311328 Vulcanizing epihalohydrin polymers ASAHI GLASS CO Ltd 11 June 1970 [12 June 1969 5 Sept 1969 14 Oct 1969 28 Oct 1969 9 Dec 1969] 28326/70 Headings C3P and C3R Epihalohydrin homopolymers and copolymers with other epoxides (e.g. alkylene oxides, perfiuoroalkylene oxides, and glycidyl ethers) are vulcanized by heating with a two-part formulation comprising (1) at least one of the following, viz. nickel carbonates, basic lead sulphates and sulphites, and dithiocarbamates of sodium, copper, cadmium, lead, antimony, bismuth, selenium, tellurium, manganese, iron, cobalt and amines, in conjunction with (2) at least one of the following, viz. 2-mercaptoimidazolines, 2 - mercaptopyrimidines, thioureas and polyamines. In a modification of the above process the above polymers may be covulcanized with a sulphur-curable rubber using a formulation as above to which has been added sulphur. Sulphur-curable rubbers include natural, styrene-butadiene, isoprene, polychloroprene, acrylonitrile-butadiene, isoprene - isobutylene, ethylene - propylenediene terpolymer, cis-polybutadiene, cis-polyisoprene and propylene oxide-allylglycidylether rubbers. Other conventional compounding agents such as zinc stearate, nickel dibutyldithiocarbamate, furnace black, zinc oxide, stearic acid and polymerized trimethyldihydroquinoline may also be incorporated.
