Abstract
1311162 Mixing apparatus SLACK & PARR Ltd 30 June 1971 [8 July 1970] 33253/70 Heading B1C A dye solution or suspension is injected into a polymer melt flowing to a spinning machine through a coil 1 by a rotary pump 9 and a feed pump 6 which operates at a pre-determined pressure controlled by a pressure-relief valve 8 in a recirculation line 7. As described, the pump 9 is a two-gear pump and the feedpump pressure is equal to that of the polymer at the injection point 11 so that the pump 9 operates in a pressure-balanced condition and meters accurately. In a modification (see Fig. 2, not shown) the injection pump 9 is replaced by a three-gear pump (12) having two inlets (15, 16) and a single inlet; dye is fed to the first inlet (15) and polymer bled off the coil at a point (14) a short distance upstream of the injection point 11 to the other inlet (16) and pre-mixed in the pump (12) with dye.
