Abstract

1311135 Scribing JAMES WEBB & SONS (ENGS) Ltd 21 Sept 1971 [22 Oct 1970] 50107/70 Heading B4X [Also in Division G1] A draughting instrument, for marking out a pattern, e.g. on to which may be projected an image of a tool whose form is to be checked, has a portion 13 guided by ball race rollers 15, 17 along an edge of a steel table 11 having at least two mutually perpendicular edges, and a measuring portion 14 having inch and metric scales 24, 25 and on which a carriage 21 supporting a scriber 29 is slidable, the portion 14 having rollers 18, 20 such that it can be moved over a drawing sheet 12 arranged on the table. The sheet may be a plastics material which is dimensionally stable despite temperature variations. In use, the carriage is set in position and locked by means of a bracket 26 and screw 27, and the scriber is finely adjusted using adjustment screw 28 and vernier scales 22, 23. The height of the scriber is thus adjusted to scribe the sheet 12 to the required depth, and the guide portion is moved along the edge 16 thereby guiding the scriber over the sheet.
