Abstract

1310925 Making tablets SUCREST CORP 28 April 1970 [29 April 1969] 20393/70 Heading ASB Compressed tablets, especially for pharmaceutical use, are made by the direct compression of a mixture of the active material (Πconventional additives such as a lubricant) with a vehicle comprising dry, free-flowing, generally spherical, porous agglomerates of 100 parts by weight of a solid, pulverized sugar and 0.1 to 30 parts of a binder composed of: propylene glycol, a sugar alcohol CH 2 OH(CHOH) x CH 2 OH where x is 1, 2, 3 or 4 or a sugar, and sufficient water to form a liquid, e.g. a syrup. The vehicle may be made by spraying the solid sugar with the liquid binder and agitating the mixture so that it builds up into agglomerates which "snowball" to form the spherical particles and drying. Active materials specified include Al(OH) 3 ; CaCO 3 /MgCO 3 /peppermint (antacids), aspirin, vitamin C and non-pharmaceutical materials such as flavours and colours.
