Abstract

A preparation of improved effectiveness is obtained by heating a mixture of water, chloramphenicol palmitate and gum arabic and/or casein until the chloramphenicol palmitate has melted, and stirring to disperse it whilst cooling until it has resolidified. Optionally, a sugar or sugar alcohol, e.g. sucrose, mannitol, or sorbitol and/or a preservative may be included, and the preparation may be spray-dried to give a powder or used in the form of the aqueous suspension resulting from the stirring step.
