Abstract
1310873 Cleaning lamp glasses G G GREENWOOD 4 June 1970 [14 March 1969] 13652/69 Heading A4F A lamp glass is cleaned by movement thereover of a wiper arm by a hydraulically powered piston moved against spring pressure, and an outlet for releasing hydraulic liquid on to the glass from in front of the piston, is opened to wash the glass when the piston has moved a given distance. A piston 26 is movable in a tube 16 surrounding a headlamp glass 18, against the action of a spring 28, by liquid supplied via one-way valve 46 in an inlet pipe 42, to rotate wiper arms 10, 12, 14 of which the arm 10 is connected by a link 38 to the piston 26. When the piston head 32 passes an outlet pipe 48 liquid is discharged through the latter onto the glass 18. Alternatively the outlet pipe 48 is replaced by a pipe 58, Fig. 2 (not shown), through which liquid is discharged when a second piston 54 is moved after the piston 26 has completed its movement. In two further embodiments, Figs.4 and 5 (not shown), one or two wiper blade(s) is or are attached, for movement linearly over a rectangular lamp glass, to two pistons located in the limits of a U-shaped tube. A further embodiment, Fig.6, (not shown), is a modification of that illustrated in Fig.1, in which liquid is fed into an expandable tube (107) to drive the piston. When the tube is fully expanded a ball valve is actuated to release its contents through a spraying nozzle onto the lamp glass.
