Abstract
475,340. Windscreen &c. wipers. GRESHAM & CRAVEN, Ltd., GRESHAM, J. N., MARSH, G. C., and JONES, T. V. BOOTH-. July 27, 1937, No. 20710. [Class 138 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] Apparatus for cleansing windows or windscreens comprises a hydraulically-operated wiper and means to spray the hydraulic fluid which has been used to operate the wiper upon the outside of the window or windscreen being cleaned. In the construction shown, in which the apparatus is applied to a window of a locomotive cab, the hydraulic motor b comprises a cylinder d, piston e, and reversing valve f. The piston rod m has a rack engaging a rack pinion o on a shaft p carrying the wiper blade c. To the piston rod is pivoted one end of a spring-extended telescopic tube n, the other end of which is pivotally connected to a pivoted lever q engaging a collar s on the spindle t of the reversing valve f. The lever q and tube a form a snap-over toggle mechanism for operating the valve f on completion of each stroke of the piston rod m. Hot water under pressure from the boiler or the injector enters the reversing valve at g and operates the piston e to oscillate the wiper blade c. The exhaust water flows through the pipe j and is sprayed through holes of graduated size on to the window of the cab.
