Abstract
131,066. Turner, N. April 12, 1918. Morse and like code multi - signal transmitting arrangements.-A code signalling apparatus for ranging guns comprises a pile of sixteen insulated metallic plates, each of which is provided with two hundred and fifty-six holes, through one of which a conducting pin is passed to connect selectively the plates to a top plate, which is electrically connected to a wireless transmitting circuit. The selection is ob. tained by making some of the alined holes in the plates of the same diameter as the pin, while other holes are of larger diameter. The plates are connected to four sets, each of four contacts, over which a brush arm, connected to the other end of the transmitting circuit, is passed. The brush arm is provided with a contact adapted, on depression in its off position, to engage a contact to send messages in the Morse code. A photograph or map is placed over the top plate, and a corresponding photograph, covered with a lined and numbered celluloid plate, is provided at the receiving station in order that when the map at the transmitter is pierced by the pin and the brush arm is operated to send the signal, the corresponding position on the receiver map may readily be found. The top plate a<1>, Figs. 2 and 3, is adapted to be connected selectively to sixteen metal plates a by the insertion of a pin in holes e in this plate and holes e<1> in the plates a. Some of the holes e<2> in the plates a are of larger diameter than the pin f, so that the plates with large holes are not connected to the plate a'. The plates a are insulated from each other by plates b of insulating material. The plates a are connected to four sets of contacts g, Figs. 1, 2 and 3, over which a brush h<2>, carried by an arm h, passes. The arm h is provided with a contact h<1> adapted to engage a contact g<1> when depressed, to send messages in the Morse code. The arm h is controlled bv a dashpot j, and is retracted by a spring i. The arm h is held in its initial position by stops p<1>, p<2>.
