Abstract
1310629 Boots &c MOORE-PERK CORP 1 June 1971 [27 July 1970] 18359/71 Heading A3B A foot or shoe covering, e.g. a disposable overshoe, consists of a pair of flat superimposed sheets 11, 12 joined together along their periphery and having an area at least 30% larger than the outline area of the foot or shoe. The upper sheet 11 is formed from a non-porous high elongation elastomer having at least 300% elongation and has an opening 15 for insertion of the wearers foot, the opening 15 having an area no greater than one tenth of the area of the sheet 11 when it is unstretched. The opening 15 may have a bead 15a formed around its periphery, e.g. by cutting the opening by means of a hot knife. Suitable materials for the upper layer 11 are butadiene-styrene copolymers or polyurethane. The lower layer 12 may be formed from the same material but preferably is formed from a porous, non stretchable, moisture resistant material such as a spun-bonded polyethylene or a scrim reinforced paper. The two layers 11, 12 may be joined together at 17 by adhesive or stitching but preferably are heat sealed together. A conductive strip 16 of fabric reinforced foil may be secured to the bottom of the overshoe, the free end 16a of the strip being placed in contact with the wearer's leg. The overshoe is suitable for use by surgeons, nurses and the like.
