Abstract

1310585 Embossing GAF CORP 1 May 1970 [2 May 1969] 48778/72 Divided out of 1310584 Heading B6J An embossed sheet material is produced by heating a foamable layer of resin material to gel the resin layer, printing a pattern on to a surface of the layer, heating the layer to foam and fuse the resin and mechanically embossing the layer whilst the material is still at an elevated temperature. The embossments may conform at least in part with the printed pattern. A felt web from roll 8 is coated with P.V.C. resin incorporating a blowing agent in a roll coater 9, passed through an oven 10 to gel the resin, cooled by rollers 11, printed in a four-stage multicolour rotogravure press 12-15 and wound on to roll 16. The printed web is provided with a clear P.V.C. top coat in roll coater 17, heated in an oven 18 to decompose the blowing agent and finally embossed in an embossing machine 19.
