1310239 Cored fancy yarn; friction false twisting MOULINAGE ET RETORDERIE DE CHAVANOZ 12 May 1970 [12 May 1969] 23011/70 Headings D1F and D1W A method of manufacturing a fancy yarn comprises feeding a core yarn 1 and an effect yarn 7, the effect yarn 7 being overfed relative to the core yarn 1, and frictionally false-twisting the two yarns to form the fancy yarn 10. The overfeed of the effect yarn may be uniform or non-uniform depending on the effect to be achieved. The yarns 1 and 7 are preferably fed at different directions and preferably at an angle of 30‹ to 90‹ to one another. At least one of the yarns undergoes a change of direction on contact with the friction surface. The two yarns may be joined at the friction surface or at a point upstream of the friction surface, which point is constantly moving. The yarns may consist of filaments, spun yarns or rovings, the materials mentioned being polyamide and polyester, but other natural or synthetic materials may be used. In a preferred embodiment, the friction false-twister comprises a spindle 5 having an annular friction surface 6. The core yarn 1 alone or both the core yarn 1 and the effect yarn 7 may be passed through the spindle 5. Various embodiments with different angles of contact with the friction surface are described. The core yarn may be drawn prior to falsetwisting. In a preferred form of the apparatus, the yarns pass through a movable guide 40 upstream of the friction false-twister 46. The guide 40 slides freely on a wire 43. The guide 40 is imparted a reciprocatory movement by means of a metal strip 44 which vibrates under the influence of an electromagnet 45. In an alternative embodiment, the reciprocatory movement is imparted to the guide by means of a compressed air jet.
