Abstract

1310032 Breath test apparatus CAND-AIRE INDUSTRIES Inc 25 April 1971 45519/72 Dived out of 1310031 Heading G1B Apparatus for use in a breath test of a person suspected of drunken driving comprises a canister 30 containing a mixture consisting essentially of only alcohol and nitrogen in a predetermined ratio, such mixture providing samples for comparison with a sample of aveolar air obtained from the suspect. The canister 30 may be provided with a wall having a septum therein permitting hypodermic extraction of a sample from the canister or, alternatively, with the mixture of nitrogen and alcohol under pressure in the canister a manually controlled valved outlet may be provided for releasing a sample from the canister. In use, a pair of ampoules 31, 32 containing a composition which changes colour in the presence of alcohol are subjected to samples respectively from the suspect and from the canister 30 and the colour changes are compared.
