1309991 Electro-physical measurement - thickners OTDEL FIZIKI NERAZRUSHAJUSCHEGO KONTROLYA AKADEMII NAUK BSSR 12 March 1971 6743/71 Heading G1N In a magnetic pull-off tester for determining the thickness of coatings on a magnetic backing, wherein the magnet is carried on a springloaded, pivoted, beam, a second supplementary spring is provided to extend the range of the instruments. As shown the magnet 25 is carried by a pivoted lever 23 which is torqued through a coiled measuring spring 22 to which rotary tension is applied by a clockwork motor 4 driving the central shaft through gears 5..10. In operation with the motor wound up the drive is restrained by a pin 12 (on the magnet carrying lever) engaging a toothed brake-wheel 11, until the device is placed on the work thus raising the magnet slightly to the level of the bottom of the housing, (not shown). When the magnet 25 pulls-off the lever 23 rotates so that blade spring 13 engages the brake-wheel 11. (An upper magnet 32 serves to hold the test magnet 25 in the "off" position). If the motor 4 cannot effect pull-off a supplementary spring 28 can be tensioned by a handwheel 26 to apply force through lever 29 which has a pin- and-slot engagement with the magnet carrying lever 23 to provide additional drive.
