Abstract

1309709 Earrings P L PERVINKLER 22Sept 1971 44254/71 Heading A3H [Also in Division A5] An ear-piercing device comprises an elongate body 1 having a longitudinal bore 9, an anvil 3, having a channel 4, mounted on a front portion of the body, a plunger 7 and a hollow carrier 23 for pressing an ear-lobe against the anvil 3 slidable in the bore with the front portion of the plunger 7 extending slidably into the carrier 23, and a spring 21 urging the carrier and plunger apart, the front face (37) Fig. 2 (not shown) of the carrier having an aperture 31 for a piercing needle 41 linked by a radial slot 33 to a second aperture 35 in the longitudinal wall of the carrier 23; forward movement of the plunger 7 causing forward movement of the carrier 23 out of the front end of the body by a distance at least equal to the length of the second aperture 35. The carrier has a slot 27 into which a screw 2 projects to prevent rotation and excessive forward movement of the carrier 23; a groove 15 and screw 17 prevent rotation of the handle. The needle 41 has at its rear a bore which contains part of the shank of a sleeper pin 43, which has a head 4 which abuts the end of the plunger 7. In use the plunger is driven forward until the needle and pin have pierced the ear, Fig. 3 (not shown), and in this position the head 45 of the pin 43 is aligned with the second aperture 35 allowing easy removal of the needle and pin from the device.
