Abstract

1309703 Phenol derivatives BAYER AG 19 April 1971 [30 Jan 1970] 20694/71 Heading C2C [Also in Divisions C4 and D1] 4 - (2<SP>1</SP> - Ethylhexyl - I<SP>1</SP> - oxy) - 3 - N,N - bis- (2<SP>11</SP> - hydroxyethyl) - amino - acetanilide is prepared by condensing 4-chloro-1,3-dinitrobenzene with 2 - ethylhexanol - 1 to yield 4 - (2<SP>1</SP>- ethylhexyl - 1<SP>1</SP> - oxy) - 1,3 - dinitrobenzene which is catalytically hydrogenated and acetylated to give 4- (2<SP>1</SP> - ethylhexyl - 1<SP>1</SP> - oxy) - 3 - amino - 1- acetylaminobenzene and finally reacting this with ethylene oxide. The corresponding 4-(3<SP>1</SP>,5<SP>1</SP>,5- trimethylhexyl - 1<SP>1</SP> - oxy) - and - (n - hexyloxy)- dorivatives are described. 4 - (2<SP>1</SP> - Ethylhexyl - 1<SP>1</SP> - oxy) - 3 - dimethylamino acetanilide is prepared by replacing ethylene oxide in the reaction specified above by reductive methylation (paraformaldehyde/catalytic H 2 ). 4 - (2<SP>1</SP> - Ethylbutyl - 1<SP>1</SP> - oxy) - 3 - dimethylamino acetanilide is prepared as described above yielding 4 - (2<SP>1</SP> - ethylbutyl - 1<SP>1</SP> - oxy) - 1,3- dinitrobenzene and 4 - (21 - ethylbutyl - 1<SP>1</SP> - oxy)- 3-amino-acetanilide as intermediates.
