Abstract

1309492 Clamps; scaffolding JONSSON ALUMINIUM & STEEL ENG WORKS (Pty) Ltd 29 April 1971 [1 May 1970] 12074/71 Headings E2B and E1S A clamp for clamping two scaffolding poles 12, 14 in end to end relation comprises a tubular sleeve 16 having an outwardly directed annular step 26 at one end for bolting to a collar 24 surrounding the pole 12 and retained thereon and a bolt 20 for engaging a boss 21 on a clamping plate 22 within the sleeve and partly surrounding the pole 14 to clamp the pole to the sleeve. By tightening the bolt operated by a handle 25, the clamping plate 21 is moved to clamp the pole to a bearing plate 23 secured to the sleeve. The collar 24 is retained on the pole 12 by a rib 28 and a rib 30 on the pole 14 retains the pole within the sleeve. The pole 14 may have a wheel at one end. A frame may comprise a plurality of poles the lengths of which, being adjustable by the clamp, so that the frame may be used on an uneven surface such as a stairway.
