Abstract

1309143 Lamp failure alarms ITT INDUSTRIES Inc 21 April 1970 [25 April 1969] 18974/70 Heading G4N In a lamp failure alarm for a vehicle direction indicator using winking lamps repeatedly operated by a switch, a leakage path is provided across the switch and a control signal derived from the voltage across the lamps or the switch and used to change the frequency of winking in the event of failure of one or more lamps. As described, capacitor C charges via resistor R1 until the voltage at point A is sufficient to operate a threshold circuit SWS when an electronic switch S is set to its lower position so as to discharge capacitor C. This operation continues to repeat, and the resulting waveform is fed to a switching circuit AS which periodically closes the winking contacts S2 controlling the power to the direction indicator lamps L1, L2. The threshold of circuit SWS is controlled by the voltage across a leak resistor R2 halfway through the dark period, hence the frequency of winking will be doubled in the event of failure of one or both lamps L1, L2.
