1308758 Harvesters DEERE & CO 19 April 1971 [20 March 1970] 24842/71 Heading A1F [Also in Division B8] To empty a saddle-shaped grain tank 1 of a combine harvester two sets of screw conveyors 10, 11, one running along the bottom of each pocket of the tank, feed the grain to transverse screw conveyors 15, 16 both feeding into the elevating screw conveyor 19 which delivers the grain into entry chamber 20 of screw conveyor 21 from which it is discharged rearwardly or to either side of the combine by rotating the conveyor 21 about vertical axis 22 located roughly in the central longitudinal plane of the combine. The conveyors 10, 11, 15, 16 are driven as shown in Fig. 1 from drive M2 and conveyors 19, 21 may be driven from the same source via the shafts of conveyors 15, 16 or separately from drive M2. Conveyor 21 is rotated by further drive means which like drive M2 may be hydraulic. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, conveyor 21 is mounted via chamber 20 on swivel pin 32 in fixed bearing 33 and carries rollers 34, 35 and 36, 37 running on fixed plate 61 to counteract the tilting movement of the conveyor. The shaft of conveyor 19 is connected via universal joint 14 to one end of double bevel gears 44 and that of conveyor 21 to the other end via gearing 54 to 60. The bevel pinions 49a, 49b of the gears 44 may be freely rotatable on shaft 45 which also passes through half joints 46, 47 to form a pivot for conveyors 19, 21. Shaft 45 may be extended downwards, and connected to one of the pinions 49a, 49b to drive a rotary paddle in chamber 20. In the second embodiment, Fig. 5, a shaft 64 carrying paddle 70 extends between and engages, by bevel gears, the shafts of conveyors 19, 21. The delivery end 63a of conveyor 19 engages and rotates within collecting chamber 67 and baffles 68, 69 promote a smooth flow of grain through the joint. Conveyor 19 which is positioned forwardly of axis 22 and aligned longitudinally in use may be swung a little to one side so that conveyor 21 may assume the former position and be locked for transport. Alternatively conveyor 21 may be folded back for transport.
