Abstract

130,859. Leigh, A. G. Nov. 4, 1918. Planes, arrangement and disposition of. - Aeroplanes with a main plane 10, Fig. 8, of normal or low aspect ratio have an auxiliary plane 20 of high aspect ratio below and in front of the main plane 10, the horizontal distance between the front edge 25 of the plane 10 and the rear edge 23 of the plane 20 never exceeding the chord of the plane 20. The centre of gravity 28, Fig. 7, lies below the planes, and between the vertical transverse planes passing through the centres of pressure 34, 35 of the main and auxiliary planes 10, 20. Rigid stabilizing-planes 36, 37, Fig. 1, extend from the junctions 21, 22 of the planes 10, 20. The inner end portions of the plane 10 curve down to meet the fuselage 11 in walls 14, windows being provided opposite the seats of the pilot and passenger, and stream-line bars 12 bridging the gap in the plane 10.
