Abstract
1308336 Electrolytic capacitors P R MALLORY & CO Ltd 17 March 1970 [27 March 1969] 12865/70 Heading H1M Closure 10 for can 11 of an electrolytic capacitor comprises a polyolefin layer 12, a natural or synthetic rubber layer 13 and a layer 14 for imparting rigidity. The polyolefin may be polyethylene, polypropylene, polybutylene, polystyrene or copolymers of their monomers. The rubber layers may have pierced holes or slits registering with openings in the other layers for passage of terminals and for venting. It is also stated that polypropylene allows gas to diffuse through it for venting and when abnormal high temperatures occur, layer 12 will melt and permit venting. The rubber layer may have a lower uncured or partially cured part and an upper cured part. To prevent the venting slit sealing itself a bored opening may extend through part of the thickness of layers 13 (Fig. 4, not shown). Layer 14 may be phenol-formaldehyde or phenolic resin or metal. The polyolefin layer permits the use of acetic acid electrolytes. The spacer between the capacitor electrodes may be nylon, acetate or P.T.F.E.
