Abstract
1308230 Making thermostats; stamping THERM-O-DISC Inc 20 Aug 1970 [22 Sept 1969] 40236/70 Headings B3A and B3Q A snap disc, movable with snap action between two positions of mobility in which the disc has opposite concavity, comprises a shallow dished member having shallow radial scallops 21. The maximum height x of the scallops, i.e. at the disc periphery is less than the concavity h of the disc and the scallops may extend to the centre of the disc. A punch and die set for forming the disc from a flat circular blank is shown in Fig. 4. In an alternative form of disc there are no intermediate portions between the scallops. When the disc is bimetallic, particularly for use in thermostats, the high expansion material is on the lower side 31 of the disc for high temperature operation and vice versa for low temperature operation. Monometallic discs, e.g. for switches, are actuated by fluid pressure or linkage.
