Abstract
1308133 Automatic control of current and light intensity H P LITTLEJOHN (ELECTRONICS) Ltd 28 April 1970 [20 Feb 1969] 9336/69 Heading G3R [Also in Division H2] A power supply system for a gas discharge tube particularly a xenon lamp XL comprises A.C. input terminals A, B to which are connected a series circuit including a variable firing angle A. C. switch e.g. a triac SW, a saturable choke SC and the lamp. An energy storage capacitor C6 generates high voltage trigger pulses in the choke SC to start the discharge in the lamp. To prevent fluctuations of the mains supply altering the light output of the lamp a current transformer CTR supplies regulating signals to a circuit Fc which controls the firing angle of the switch and therefore also the light output of the lamp. Voltage transients and r.f. interference are suppressed by a filter circuit C2-C4, C6, L3, L4. The current transformer may be replaced by a photo-electric sensing device.
