Abstract

1308044 Tables combined with ironing boards J C E ARMSTRONG 10 June 1970 [12 June 1969] 29786/69 Heading A4H A collapsible table includes a hinged central leaf 6 concealing therebeneath a withdrawable ironing board 12 which is pivoted to the table by a linkage so that it can be swung to an operative position overlying the leaf 6. Board 12 includes a hinged extension 17 for an iron which in the storage position overlies board 12 Fig. 5 (not shown). The table includes drop-leaves 2 which are supported by gate-legs (3); and an open-topped box 11 or a drawer beneath leaf 6 for an iron. The linkage comprises two levers 18 pivoted at 26 to board 12, two levers 27 pivoted at 28 to levers 18 and at 29 to the table frame and two levers 32 pivoted at 33 to levers 18 and at 34 to the table frame, and a slotted lever 23 pivoted at 24 to board 12, a pivot pin 39 on the table frame engaging through the slot 41. Before board 12 can be withdrawn, leaf 6 is swung up Fig. 5 (not shown), and then board 12 is swung to and past a vertical position until leaf 6 can be brought down. After leaf 6 has been brought down board 12 is swung back to a position overlying leaf 6. The linkage can be locked automatically in this position by a spring-actuated chamfered pin 44 which engages a hole 46, Fig. 5 (not shown) in lever 23. The ironing board 12 may be replaced by a hot plate or heat-proof panel, and electrical connections can be provided.
