Abstract

1307497 Milling cutters SOC ANON DELTAL 19 April 1971 [6 March 1970] 23152/71 Heading B3K In a worm-wheel cutting hob comprising toothed blades 4 secured in axially extending slots 3 in a cylindrical body 2, wherein the inclinations of faces 3a, 3b of the slots with respect to a plane containing the body axis are such that the blades may each be turned around between "working" and "re-sharpening" positions, the blades are secured in the body by screws or screwed rivets 7 extending through bores 8 in the body into bases 4c of the blades. The bores 8 and screws may be offset axially from slot to slot. Each of the slot faces 3a and adjacent blade tooth cutting faces 4a are in a plane containing the body axis. Body openings 9 provide for screw or rivet tightening access. To allow axial adjustment of the blades the bores 8 may provide diametral clearance or may be oblong in cross-section. As shown in Fig. 3, each of the bores 8 opens transversely into a cavity 12 in turn opening into the base 3c of the corresponding slot, this arrangement providing for bayonet assembly of the blade, the latter having its screws or rivets already fitted. Where screwed rivets are used, the blades may be removed from the body, for re-sharpening, by applying axial force to the blades and thereby shearing the rivets, the sheared rivet parts being subsequently removed from the blades and body in readiness for re-assembly.
