Abstract

1307255 Substituted basic benzhydryl ethers PFIZER Ltd 9 Sept 1971 [12 Sept 1970] 43702/70 Heading C2C Novel compounds of formula wherein R is alkyl of 4 or 5 carbon atoms, R<SP>1</SP> is H or C 1-4 alkyl, n is 0 to 3 and Z is a divalent group which, with the carbon atom to which it is attached, completes a saturated heterocyclic ring containing at least one nitrogen atom, optionally substituted by C 1-4 alkyl or benzyl, and at least four carbon atoms, any such nitrogen atom being separated from the oxygen atom to which the C n H 2n group is attached by a chain of from two to four carbon atoms and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof, are prepared by reaction of an alcohol of formula or a halide thereof with the halide or the alcohol HO-C n H 2n CHZ respectively optionally with conversion into a salt. Pharmaceutical compositions in conventional forms for oral or parenteral administration and having antihystamine "H2" blocking activity comprise an above novel compound or salt and a carrier therefor.
