Resistances.-Resistance wires A wound upon an asbestos core, as shown in Fig. 3, are enclosed between two lengths of tape B sewn between a layer of fire-proofed cotton cloth C and a layer of felt F, the whole being enclosed in a covering the sides H, I of which are of wadded quilting and cotton cloth respectively. The wires A are varnished, and the tapes B are impregnated with insulating-material. A current of half an ampere is used at 100 volts. With higher voltages, an external resistance is connected to the heating- wires.
