1306938 Shafts GKN TRANSMISSIONS 15 May 1970 [2 July 1969] 33418/69 Heading F2U A hollow metal propeller shaft 10 for transmitting rotation has its bending stiffness increased at each end by an internal or external support 13 (e.g. of the same gauge as the shaft and with a scarfed end 15). One end of the shaft 10 and its support 13 may be welded to an end fitting 12. The scarfed ends 15 may be rotated, prior to welding, to balance the shaft.
