Abstract

1306564 Sulphonamides MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 19 April 1971 [13 April 1970 24 Feb 1971] 26681/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of the formula where R f is fluoroalkyl having at least two fluorine atoms bonded to the alpha carbon atom, R is hydrogen, cyano, alkyl, alkylsulphonyl, a cation or -CO-A-R<SP>1</SP> where R<SP>1</SP> is alkyl and A is oxygen or a carbon-carbon bond, B is oxygen, sulphur, sulphinyl or sulphonyl, Ar is phenyl or naphthyl, Y and Y<SP>1</SP> are halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, nitro, amino, alkanamido, haloalkyl, hydroxy, dialkylamino, carbalkoxamino, alkylthio, alkylsulphonyl, alkanoyl, dialkylsulphamoyl or alkylsulphinyl and n and n<SP>1</SP> are 0-2, provided that the individual aliphatic groups appearing in the R f , R, R<SP>1</SP>, Y and Y<SP>1</SP> moieties contain 1-4 carbon atoms. The compounds may be prepared by the following reaction schemes where Q is halogen or OSO 2 Rf, or where D is Cl, Br, I or a diazonium group, M is an alkali metal and W is O or S, provided that when D is halogen, M can also be copper and that when D is a diazonium group, W cannot be oxygen. Compounds wherein B is SO or SO 2 can be prepared by oxidizing compounds wherein B is S. The compounds may also be prepared by introducing Y, Y<SP>1</SP> or R groups into suitable sulphonamide or by replacing existing Y, Y<SP>1</SP> and R groups by others.
