Abstract
1306394 Fire detectors NITTAN CO Ltd 15 Oct 1970 [16 Oct 1969] 49128/70 Heading G1N Also in Division G4] In a fire detecting system, a plurality of ionisation smoke detectors 101-104, each including an open and a closed ionisation chamber 10, 20, a F.E.T.4 and a SCR 6, are connected in parallel across a voltage supply 18, included in a unit 40, when a switch 34 is connected to contact 31-2, the system being tested for faulty operation of any of the detectors by connecting switch 31 to contact 31-4 to apply a voltage across the open ionisation chambers to thereby operate each detector as if smoke had entered therein. After a time, the switch 31 is connected to contact 31-1 to connect a resistor 16 to one side of each SCR 6 and if any of the detectors are non-operative a voltage appears on voltmeter 19, the non-operative detector then being located by inspecting the lamps 5 of the detectors. A smaller test voltage may be applied to the open ionisation chambers by connecting switch 31 to contact 31-3, any of the detectors which does operate then being regarded as faulty. Under normal operation, if any of the detectors detects smoke, an alarm 17 is energized through relays 33,34, the system being reset by a switch 32.
