Abstract

1306162 Electro-deposition of a magnetic coating SOC INDUSTRIELLE HONEYWELL BULL 24 April 1970 [25 April 1969] 19928/70 Heading C7B [Also in Division H1] In the presence of a magnetic field, a magnetic Fe/Ni layer is electrolytically deposited on a Cu wire as the wire moves continuously through an electrolyte. The stable axis of magnetisation of the magnet layer is circumferentially orientated by arranging the magnetic field orthogonal to and rotating around the axis of the wire. The magnetic field is supplied by a device coaxial with the wire. The device comprises an arrangement of flat, e.g. rectangular, windings whose planes are parallel to the wire and which are transversed by polyphase current. The arrangement may comprise (1) n windings (traversed by n current phases) whose planes intersect the wire and make angles #/n between adjacent winding pairs or (2) 2m windings in parallel pairs disposed regularly around the wire all pairs being traversed by m current phases. Preferably n = m = 2. The windings surround the electro-plating tank.
