1305817 Storing liquids in flexible tanks; reservoirs NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 19 April 1971 [3 March 1970] 10248/70 Addition to 1187777 Headings E1H and E1T The liquid storage installations of Specifications 1187777 and 1214294 are modified by the provision of a plurality of floating flexible storage tanks 18, 20 in the upwardly open recess 10. The tanks, which may be of butyl synthetic rubber, when full together fill the whole useful area of the base of the recess, and are simultaneously filled or emptied via lower manifolds 40 and pipe 36. Adjacent tank interiors are interconnected through load balancing apertures in plates 46 between adjacent tanks, which plates with the manifolds, anchor the tanks in position. The use of four quadrant shaped or nine rectangular tanks is specifically disclosed. Flexible ducts 62 allow rain water to drain from the tank tops to the space beneath them. Vent floats 64 in the tank tops and radially spaced perforated pipes 66 in the ballasted tank bottoms are provided, the latter pipes preventing regions of the tanks from becoming isolated as the tanks collapse on emptying.
