Abstract
1305530 Lasers HUGHES AIRCRAFT CO 12 Jan 1972 [21 Jan 1971] 1400/72 Heading H1C A laser rod 16 and its associated flashlamp 18 are disposed within a cavity 15 which forms a bobbin of a transformer used to initiate discharges in the flashlamp. The transformer shown has a primary winding 30, and three radially inner secondaries 32 which are connected in series by wires 34. The windings are separated by insulation 38, and are potted in an epoxy 40. The bobbin may be a ceramic. One end of the primary is grounded, as are respective ends of the flashlamp and a secondary. The other end of the primary is connected to a capacitor 52 charged by source V 2 ; this capacitor can be discharged into the primary by triggering the SCR 46. When triggered a high voltage is induced in the secondary, and the field causes initiation of the discharge in the flashlamp. Source V, and pulse shaping network 20 supply the main discharge current. The bobbin may have a circular, elliptical or near elliptical bore 15, and the bore may be gold or silver plated to reflect the light from the flashlamp. (For Figure see next page.)
