Abstract
1305262 Propylene and isobutylene GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 25 Aug 1970 [25 Sept 1969] 40803/70 Heading C5E Propylene and isobutylene are produced by pyrolysing isobutane in the presence of a homogeneous catalyst. Suitable catalysts include H 2 S (which may. be introduced in the form of (NH 4 ) 2 S or NH 4 MS), alkyl mercaptans, alkyl sulphides, Br 2 , NH 4 Br, HBr, CH 2 Cl 2 , ammonium polysulphide, and reaction products of one mole of H 2 S with from 1-2 moles of an amine. Pyrolysis temperatures of 500-900‹ C. may be used, and a diluent may be present, e.g. steam, N 2 or CH 4 .
