Abstract

1305185 Ultrasonic inspection devices STD SERVICES Ltd 5 March 1970 [13 Dec 1968] 59426/68 Heading H4D A device for closing a liquid-filled passage of an ultrasonic test head for tubes, rods and the like when no test specimen is in the passage, comprises a pair of sleeves 13 axially slidable relative to test head housing 10. The sleeves carry respective removable bushes 16 selected to fit closely on a test specimen. An air piston and cylinder drives pivoted levers (Fig. 2, not shown) linked by pin-and-slot mechanism 17 to sleeves 13 for actuating them to bring bushes 16 into abutment with an annular screen 11 used to prevent direct waves and tube surface reflections from reaching receiving transducers in probes on housing 10. If probes are used which transmit waves into the test specimen in radial planes, screen 11 is omitted and one or each of the sleeves 16 is fitted with a resilient seal.
