Abstract
1304992 Perfluoroalkylmonocarboxylic acid esters CIBA-GEIGY AG 19 April 1971 [9 Feb 1970 6 Jan 1971] 21170/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division D1] Perfluoroalkylmonocarboxylic acid esters of the formula where R is a perfluoroalkyl radical of 4 to 14 carbon atoms, Q is an acyclic n-alkylene radical of 1 to 10 carbon atoms, or a cyclo-alkylene radical of up to 10 carbon atoms with 5 or 6 ring carbon atoms, A and the mutually adjacent carbon atoms (1) and (2) together denote a saturated cyclo aliphatic ring or a ring system with 5 to 10 ring carbon atoms, Y 1 is hydroxyl or -CH 2 -Z, where Z is hydroxyl or a saturated aliphatic or cycloaliphatic radical which is bonded to the -CH 2 - group by an ether or ester bridge, or Y 1 is where Z 1 and Z 2 each are a monovalent saturated aliphatic or cyclo-aliphatic radical, or together are a bivalent saturated aliphatic or cycloaliphatic radical, Y 2 is hydrogen or -CH 2 -Z, Z being as above and, where Z is an aliphatic radical, the latter can form with Y 1 and Y 2 a group of the formula X is hydrogen, C 1-4 alkyl or hydroxyalkyl and G is an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic radical bonded by an ether or ester bridge to the carbon atom (2), or a hydroxyl group, are prepared by reading a perfluoroalkylmonocarboxylic acid of the formula -R-Q-COOH with an epoxide of the formula and optionally etherifying or esterifying the hydroxyl group on the carbon atom (2), with an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic compound. The perfluoroalkylmonocarboxylic acid esters may be cross-linked or cured by reaction with compounds which contain several functional groups capable of reaction with hydroxyl groups. Examples are given of such polyfluoro compounds in compositions with (7) citric acid and magnesium chloride in ethyl acetate and (8) chloroacetic acid with (D) and (E) ethanol, (F) dimethyl glyoxal-monourein in ethanol/ water, (G) and (H) as in (F), the urein being replaced by an aqueous solution of a mixture of hexamethylol - melamine - hexamethyl-ether and dimethylolethylene urea (I) butanol/ acetone and (J) dioxane.
