Abstract

1304863 Electrophotographic element CANON KK 11 Aug 1970 [13 Aug 1969] 38642/70 Heading H1K An electrophotographic member comprises a photosensitive layer including a cadmium chalcogen or solid solutions thereof and a photosensitive layer including a compound of formula X 4 YZ 6 , wherein X is Zn or Cd, Y is Si or Ge and Z is S, Se or Te or solid solutions thereof. The layers may be identical or formed separately on a support of Al, Cu or Zn. In the specific embodiments a layer of CdS dispersed in copolyvinyl acetate-chloride is coated on a support and overcoated with a layer of Cd 4 SiS 6 or a mixture of Cd 4 GeSi 6 and Zn 4 GeSi 6 dispersed in copolyvinyl acetate-chloride. In one embodiment, a transparent film of a fluorine-containing polymer or a polyester is fixed to the surface of the member. A fluorescent or semi-conductive layer may be added to the member. The preparation of the ternary compounds is given including the step of treating grains of the compounds with dilute acid to make the grains smooth. Many suitable binders and ternary compounds are specified.
