Abstract

1304827 Treating liquid fuel G FUJII and K TAKAHASHI 27 Aug 1971 [3 Sept 1970] 40352/71 Heading F1B The combustion efficiency of an I.C. engine liquid fuel is improved by electrostatically charging the fuel and then allowing sufficient time to elapse for chemical reactions to occur in the fuel, due to the electrostatic charging, before the fuel is burnt. An apparatus for carrying out the method comprises a pump which feeds the fuel at a uniform rate through a charging device and a reaction cnamber within which the fuel is retained for several minutes before it passes to the engine. The chemical reactions which occur are stated to increase the output energy of the fuel by 4% and to reduce the CO content of the exhaust gases by 80%. The fuel is charged by passing it over a surface which is at a high potential, by passing it over an insulative surface so that it becomes charged by friction, by radiation, by subjecting it to an electromagnetic field, or by passing it under pressure through a metal pipe.
