1304524 Curtain pleating tapes; curtains R G VIPOND 1 Oct 1970 [13 Oct 1969] 50164/69 Headings A4B, A4S [Also in Divisions B6, D1] A former for defining and positioning folds in curtains comprises a flexible plastics strip 1, e. g. of polypropylene, having crease lines 2 arranged in transverse straight lines at a pitch so as to correspond to required folds, the lines 2 being so formed as to constitute hinges. The lines 2 are made by applying heat and pressure to reduce the thickness of the strip by approximately one half along these lines. The former shown in Fig. 1, is used in the making of curtains having pinch pleating in the form of tri-pointed projections, Figs. 2 and 4. The former is laid on the curtain fabric parallel to the upper edge thereof and is stapled in position and then sewn along the upper edge as shown at 5, Fig. 4. The fabric is folded over and the pinch pleats are formed. The pleats may then be held in position by sewing along the bottom and up the back of the pleats, Fig. 5 (not shown). Any staples used for temporarily holding the pleat in position are removed during sewing. The former may have notches 8, Fig. 1, to assist the positioning of the folds. Additional creases 3, Fig. 1, may also be formed to allow for a certain amount of fullness and flexibility in use and, also, the creases may be folded over and stapled, sewn or adhered to shorten the distance between the pleats, Fig. 3 (not shown).
