Abstract
1304476 Fixing unit A POLAK 19 April 1971 [9 Feb 1970] 21342/71 Heading F2H A connection unit 1 to be driven into a wall 2 under the action of percussion means (not shown), which may be an explosive charge, comprises an elongated body 3 with an axial channel 5 constricted at 6 towards the point 4 and enclosing a central body 7 capable of sliding in the channel 5 and of deforming the body 3 upon reaching the constricted portion 6. The channel 5 may end in a slit 8 in the body 3 giving direction to the deformation of that end upon impact of the conical end 9 of body 7 with the narrower conical end 6 of the channel 5. Compression of air in the channel 5 provides pressure and heat which assists the deformation of the body 3, but brakes the movement of the body 7, a suitable balance is achieved by allowing partial evacuation through holes 11 in the body 3 or axial channels 12 in the body 7. Deformation may also be facilitated by providing weakened regions e.g. grooves 13 allowing separation after impact of body 7. The ends of the bodies 3, 7 opposite to their points are initially interconnected by a glued membrane of paper. Of the two bodies 3, 7 either may have the greater mass.
