Abstract

1304028 Traversing yarns E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 1 June 1970 [3 June 1969] 26371/70 Heading D1J A process for winding yarn into cylindrical yarn packages by traversing the yarn through successive stroke lengths to form a package of layers of helical coils, each coil having substantially the same helix angle, is characterized in that the coils are laid down at their reversals in differently shaped curves in a repeating progression throughout the winding of the package. The stroke lengths may also vary in a repeating manner. The traverse may be effected by using a grooved barrel cam having two or more yarn traversing cycles per one or more revolutions of the barrel, the groves being curved differently to each other at their traverse ends. At least two successive reversal curves and corresponding stroke lengths in the repeating progression may be the same, the remaining curves and stroke lengths in the repeating progression being different therefrom. Several suitable multi-cycle barrel cams are illustrated.
