Abstract
1303657 Facsimile apparatus MUIRHEAD Ltd 28 April 1970 [30 May 1969] 27420/69 Heading H4F In a facsimile transmitter and/or receiver wherein a carriage bearing an optical system is reciprocable along a straight rail to effect successive line scans of a surface which is moved orthogonally to the direction of movement of the carriage, an opaque sheet with a linear slit parallel to the rail is interposed between the carriage and the surface, and the optical system views a narrow rectangular area with its length normal to that of the slit and greater than the slit width, so that vibration of the carriage or rail does not result in non-linear scan lines. The opaque sheet may be a chromium film on glass so that for a transmitter carriage bearing lamps arranged so that they direct light to the rectangular viewing area at an acute angle to the line of sight of the optical system, the unwanted light is reflected away from the optical system. In a facsimile receiver, the scanned surface would be, e.g. photographic film, and the optical system would include, e.g. a crater tube.
