Abstract

Fuel-economizers; air-heating fittings.-A device of the kind consisting in a hollow body which reduces the fuel space in a grate and supplies heated air to the room is formed with an open bottom and front. Fig. 1 shows a hollow cheek for use in a kitchen range having an open bottom 6 through which air enters and an open front 5 from which it passes, after heating, to the room. The lower part may be set back, as shown at 10, in order not to diminish the flue opening beneath the boiler d, Fig. 4. Figs. 6 and 10 show a hollow jacket extending round the back and sides of a fire-place, preferably furnished with a grate 17 supported on lugs 18 and shoulders 19 above the level of the open bottom of the jacket. Feet or lugs 20 raise the bottom of the jacket above the grate on which it stands to allow air to enter, the heated air passing to the room through the open ends 15. Alternatively, the outer wall may be deeper than the inner, or openings 21 may be made in the lower edge of the inner wall. The jacket may be built in to form part of a range or grate instead of being used on an existing grate.
