Abstract

1302505 Cooling towers MARLEY CO 2 July 1971 [27 July 1970] 31242/71 Heading F4K A cross-flow cooling tower packing comprises splash bars 40, Fig. 5, each comprising a pair of upright imperforate side walls 42 spanned by a perforate wall 44 which consists of surfaces 48 inclined inwardly from the side walls. In use, the bars are supported by vertically disposed, horizontally spaced grids 34, Fig. 3, and the falling droplets of liquid being cooled in the tower and which impinge on the bar, form three lines viz. 52, 54 of drips for liquid dispersed by the bar surfaces. The grids 34 are supported on cross rods 32. Typical dimensions are given for the bars. The grids may be made of a synthetic resin (e.g. a glassreinforced polyester, and the bars may be of extruded P.V.C.
