Abstract

1302326 Dustpans; carpet sweepers R KIEVES 21 May 1971 16455/71 Heading A4F A cleaning brush and dust-collector device comprises a housing 12 having an elongated handle 14 attached to one end-wall, a rotary brush 38 extending through an opening in the bottom wall, a pivotally mounted dustpan 24 forming a side wall, a combined brush and sponge implement, 52, 54 removably mounted in a recess 56 in the other side wall, and a compartment 46 for receiving dust swept by the rotary brush 38, or collected by use of the dustpan 24. The illustrated embodiment also has a top wall 16 provided with a brush pile surface 18, the piles in each of four sections of which run parallel in a direction different from those in the other sections, and are inclined to the base surface of each section. With the dustpan 24 closed the device is run over a surface to be cleaned on wheels 44, Fig. 4 (not shown) at the ends of the brush 38, so that the latter is rotated to sweep dust into the compartment 46. Alternatively the dustpan 24 is opened and dust swept thereinto by the brush 52 or the sponge 54 of the implement 52, 54 after detaching it from the recess 56. The brush surface 18 may be used to transfer dust from less to more accessible areas for collection by the dustpan or sweeping brush.
